Renforth Resources reported that lab work performed on Surimeau grab samples demonstrated an average of 68% sulphide nickel.
Although Renforth has historically focussed on its Canadian-based gold projects, the company is now also working on its Surimeau VMS Discovery, located adjacent to the Canadian Malartic Mine in Quebec and approximately 20 kms. south of Agnico Eagle's LaRonde Mine.
Surface grab samples collected during a reconnaissance sampling program during the summer of 2020 were all from the southern anomaly, Victoria West, with the exception of one, from Lalonde, approximately 3.5 kms. north of Victoria West and within the northern anomaly, which returned the highest sulphide percentage.
These samples were assayed using a four-acid digestion process as recommended by Dr. James Franklin, who recently joined Renforth as the Principal Technical Advisor for the Surimeau project.
Management believes this process, which includes both sulphide and silicate nickel, provides superior accuracy due to its more complete sample digestion, as compared to a less complete digestion method, such as Aqua Regia, which primarily determines only the sulphide-nickel content, as most of the silicate-contained nickel is not dissolved using the Aqua Regia method.
In order to determine the amount of sulphide versus silicate nickel reported in the assays, the company elected to re-process any grab sample which initially contained above 1000 parts per million nickel by the four-acid digestion method with an additional Aqua Regia digestion.
By comparing the results, which are shown in this table, it is possible, in a very simple way, to estimate the amount of sulphide nickel contributing to the four-acid assay content.
Nicole Brewster, President and CEO, stated: “Renforth is pleased that at Surimeau our initial nickel sulphide content calculations demonstrate that the surface nickel mineralization is largely composed primarily of sulphide nickel, supporting our statement that Surimeau, with 5 kms of mineralization observed at Victoria West alone, is a large scale battery-grade nickel discovery on surface. It is road accessible via the Rapide-Sept road, which ends at the hydro-electric generating station approximately 40kms to the south. This is certainly a green nickel story, in our opinion, with lots of room to grow.”
Renforth considers it important to demonstrate that Surimeau is a sulphide nickel occurrence as sulphide nickel can be recovered by conventional milling methods, whereas silicate nickel is far less easily recovered.
The company is continuing lab work on the reject material from the previously processed drill core samples, assaying the remaining approximately 70 meters of drill core from the 194-meter drill program for Platinum group elements.
Drilling on Renforth's Parbec open pit-constrained gold resource is ongoing with the current program of 19 holes over approximately 5,000 meters completing the 15,000-meter drill program that started in September 2020.
Assay results for 22 of the 27 holes drilled in 2020 are still outstanding, along with samples from the first 6 holes drilled this year.
Upon receipt of all the data generated by the 15,000-meter drill program the geological model for Parbec will be rebuilt for recalculation of a resource estimate.
Upon completion of the Parbec drilling the drill crew will mobilize to Surimeau and carry out the next stage drill program.
In addition, the company intends to continue prospecting at its Nixon-Bartleman gold property in Ontario, last visited in 2014 when Renforth channel sampled 22.1 grams per tonne gold over 0.3 meters, extending the on-strike length of surface gold mineralization to over 500 meters.
The shares are trading at $0.075.
